Dove

Is an ancient symbol. It represented Babylon, the goddess Semiramis and in ancient Greece it was associated with Aphrodite, the goddess of Love and Beauty.

During the baptism of Jesus, the Holy Spirit descended like a dove and came to rest on Jesus. (Mathew 3:16) So the dove symbolises the Holy Spirit, freed from the toils of the flesh. It is the bearer of heavenly messages and guidance.

The dove whispered in the ear of the prophet Mohammad and was his oracle.

The dove also represents peace and liberty, the victory of spirit over matter.

‘Spirit’ and ‘inspired’ have the same etymological root. We think when we breath in.
